Wexford is a community about 25 minutes away from Downtown Pittsburgh; it’s split among multiple municipalities including Franklin Park, McCandless Township, Pine Township, and Marshall Township. It’s named after County Wexford in Ireland.
It’s growing as a diverse area of town, home to many upper-middle-class people and a commercial landscape that is dominated by corporate chains, car dealerships, and small local businesses that run along Route 19.
In the Middle of it All
The Wexford area is home to some of the best schools in Pennsylvania, including North Allegheny Senior High School, Pine-Richland High School, Marshall Middle School, Wexford Elementary School, and Vincentian Academy.
With so much shopping and entertainment in the area, it is sometimes forgotten how naturally beautiful the area can be. Close to Wexford is North Park and North Park Lake, allowing for tons of outdoor activities with hiking trails, pavilions for events, an ice rink, golf course, dog parks, and local restaurants and shops. Local farmlands and green hills surround this busy part of town.
In 1998 Wexford was given a 724-area code, rather than 412, because of its close proximity to Cranberry Township. Cranberry Township is one of the fastest growing areas in the United States.
